Preliminary Task: Front Cover Textual Anaylsis

Denotation: A picture of a man on the front of a college magazine, in his mid twenty's representing education.

Connotation: A demonstration of a educational college magazine, the upper half of a man's body showing that he is holding books. A lot of writing on the image, using bright colour schemes for the texts, (yellow, green, white and pink) portraying warm, comforting meanings. He is persumed to be the 'young hip' college student; followed through with a smile concluding he's happy and glad to be furthering his education.

Costume: The man is costumed to be smartly cassual, black modern styled leather jacket, plain white t-shirt showing the reader he's not fussy with appearance as maybe his main interests are in learning, thats more important.

Props: He's wearing a chain with a crucifix attached to it indicating that hes religious however to attract the young people. He's holding law and society books.

NVC: His non-verbal communication is highly laid back as hes standing slanted, even though he's not in a suit and tie standing straight and firmly doesnt make him look like a slob he still looks classy and representable for an educational magazine. Also his pose gives off to the reader that college life isnt so hard.

Lighting: The lighting of this image is dark so its a low-key lighting.

Setting: The setting seems to be in front of a black shady wallpaper as theres nothing included in the background, its just plain and simple, but sometimes simples more.

The title 'College' is the biggest font on the image, the text is in a vibrant, young colour (green). The font used for all of the text seems to be 'trebuchet' bold. The fact that theres such bright colours on such a dark background shows a mixture of feelings to do with maturity (black and white) however, not growing up to fast then on the other hand theres 'fun' (green and pink) but know's how to remain focussed.

The bar code is smartly placed at the front of the magazine to automatically show people that the magazine they're purchasing is accurate, also to specify the product isn't being mistaken for a similar-looking item.

All of the headings are targeted to the youth to relate to them better yet to allow them to relate to the words in the magazine. The headings are cool and captivating to college students, e.g. 'why we love blackberry', that phrase alone automatically draws in the target reader because blackberry's are the new craze of todays generation.

Induction: Movie Poster Textual Analysis

This is a poster of the Indiana Jones movie which has a man standing infront of a cave and a firey skull for the background.

Costumes: The characters 'costume' is a simple khaki loose trousers and shirt with a old fashioned hat. The mans' sleeves are roled up indicating he will be patrolling through paths which may be dauntingly chanllenging.

Props: He's holding a whip in his hand showing his adventure may be dangerous which will lead to a time to protect himself. the whip is seen to be his signature weapon as normally characters will have either knifes or guns but his prop isn't typical.

NVC: The man is standing with a bold posture, proving his confidence and masculinity. His facial expression is serious, shows that he's not playing around and he is ready for business. Both fists are clenched together angrily as if he's ready to fight.

Lighting: The lighting is set to be low-key as theres areas which are really dark, but the background mainly involves the scary golden skull which would be under high-key lighting.

Setting: The setting isn't so obvious as there's dark areas yet the bright light coming from the skull makes it difficult to tell however, it seems to be set in the jungle based in a cave, with vines surrounding the dark shadow's with stairs behind the character most probably leading the way to the 'Crystal Skull'.

Anchorage: The colour of the title is the same as the skull behind the man with a black rim around the letters to enable the font to be bold. The colour of the rim also duplicates the dark black shadow's.

Induction: Re-Creation of a Movie Magazine Front Cover

I have never used photoshop before however after the first 10minutes into the lesson i caught the hang of some area's in photoshop for instance, I was able to put layers together to create the heading, I managed to get similar fonts and colours. unfortunately i was unable to finish as i didnt know how to access my work from home although there should be no excuse. Some parts were indeed difficult as i didnt know how to do the bar code but hopefully within the next lesson I'm able to learn more about photoshop in able for me to catch up with work and finish all pieces of work set.
